ORIGIN: The Liberation Book Club (LBC) was born from the grief of witnessing the live-streamed genocide of Palestinians in Gaza coupled with rage towards the systems in place that would perpetrate this level of barbaric violence upon Land and Life. The LBC project is a direct response to the call for community organizing we understand is necessary in order to move towards justice and liberation for all.
We meet online every two weeks with the intention of creating supportive community, organizing towards collective liberation, and supporting each other in deepening our individual political educations. We keep in touch in between meetings through a private online space. There are optional book and/or film assignments between meetings, but there is no pressure to complete these assignments. The assignments focus on decolonization and anti-oppression work. While the topics we discuss may intersect with racism, ableism, homophobia, transphobia, sexism, patriarchy, white supremacy, capitalism, colonialism, climate change, and more, we decide together which books and works we want to prioritize. We uplift and learn from voices of the global majority. We acknowledge that there are many things we were not taught in traditional school and that we’ve grown up indoctrinated in white supremacy and the harmful colonial settler project known as the “United States”. We collaborate on anti-oppression work together so that we can protect Life instead of continuing to be harmful by participating in systems that are detrimental to all forms of Life.
Please reach out if this resonates and we'll be in touch.
